"The girl from Montmartre," which opened on August 5, 1912, is the American version by Harry B. and Robert Smith of "Das Mädel von Montmartre," Rudolph Schanzer and Henri Bereny's musicalization of Georges Feydeau's 1899 play "La dame de chez Maxim." Despite having composed more than half the American score, Kern apparently received little credit for his contribution. The collection includes a manuscript full score identifying Frank Saddler as orchestrator, which was probably his working copy and is heavily annotated, and a manuscript score and parts for "Ooo ooo Lena," inserted at the back. The manuscript vocal score also contains printed music bound in (excerpts from the 1911 vocal score of Bereny's "Das Mädel von Montmartre," published by Weinberger, Leipzig, and sheet music for Kern's songs published by T.B. Harms). Orchestra parts, also manuscript, occur as three sets. Some of the parts in Set A include excerpts from the Weinberger holograph parts for Bereny's "Mädel." One set is for the song "Tiddley-Tom." Most items in the collection bear the stamp of Charles Frohmann. The accompanying material consists of a playbill from the 1912-1913 season of the Academy of Music concert hall in Baltimore, for the Feb. 1913 performance of "The girl from Montmartre" (Nixon & Zimmerman Academy of Music Co.; "Bill of the play", v. 2, no. 17). Playbill (22 p. ; 25 cm.) includes cast list, synopsis of scenes and musical numbers, production credits, and advertising.
